Home to Sacred Space: Creating Peace, Balance, and Higher Energy at Home

“Arranging a home to hold happiness in place is the primary goal of Feng Shui.”
— Terah Kathryn Collins

Is your home your peaceful sanctuary — or simply a place to sleep, eat, and store your things? As a real estate agent, I walk into dozens of homes, and I can usually tell immediately whether a space feels inviting or not. You can feel it — from the curb appeal to the front door and all the way inside. A well-loved home exudes warmth. A neglected space feels cold, no matter how expensive it is.

Over time, I’ve transformed my own home into a place that reflects tranquility, clarity, and intention. Through simple design choices — like a monochromatic palette, curated artwork, fragrant candles, and an altar at the heart of the room — I’ve created a space that both grounds and uplifts. Here’s how you can do the same.

7 Practical Ways to Elevate Your Space

Creating a sacred space is not about perfection or expense — it’s about intention, energy, and flow.

Declutter and organize your space. A clean, organized home lowers stress, supports mental clarity, and fosters calm. Assign everything a home — from scissors to skincare — so your space feels functional and peaceful.

Reconsider your bedroom layout. Avoid placing your bed under a window. It should rest against a solid wall with no doors at either side. Your sleeping space should feel secure and supportive.

Separate work from rest. If you work from home, don’t use your bedroom as your office. Keep your work energy out of the place you rest and recharge.

Use the Feng Shui Bagua Map. The Bagua Map divides your home into nine life areas (like wealth, love, and health). Align it with your floor plan, starting at the front door, and begin improving just one room connected to the life area you want to enhance.

Define your home’s personality by choosing colors that match your mood or goals. For example, red symbolizes passion and boldness — great for an office. Soft greens bring in nature and calm — ideal for family rooms.

Bring in the five elements to balance your space. Earth elements like rocks, pottery, and mountains create grounding energy. Metal elements such as gold, silver, and copper provide structure and clarity. Water elements like fountains, glass, and mirrors promote peace and flow. Wood elements, such as plants and natural fabrics, bring in growth and vitality. Fire elements, like candles, fireplaces, and bold colors, add energy and transformation.

Start with one room. Begin where it matters most — your bedroom, office, or the area you spend the most time in. Let that room become the anchor of calm and energy.

The Power of Energy and Environment

We talk often about thoughts and emotions, but our environment plays a huge role in shaping how we feel. From the design of a space to the energy of people within it, everything affects your vibrational frequency.

I’ve worked in both boutique creative agencies and large corporate offices. The environments couldn’t have been more different. The agency felt alive and fun, while the corporate office had fluorescent lights, tension, and disconnect. The same holds true for your home — it either supports your peace or saps your energy.

Sacred Spaces Sell, Too

When preparing a home for sale, I guide my clients through a process of clearing, depersonalizing, and re-staging. We remove clutter, add fresh plants or luxe pieces, and sometimes even fully stage the space with professional designers.

Why? Because buyers respond emotionally. According to the National Association of REALTORS®, 82% of buyer agents say staging helps buyers visualize a property as their future home. It’s not just décor — it’s energy.

The Sound of a Home Matters

Sound influences how a space feels. To create a peaceful environment, limit outside noise by closing windows during rush hour and opening them at night to refresh the air. Be mindful of screens, as TVs emit moving images, noise, and subtle EMF energy that can disrupt rest and increase anxiety. Choose healing music with soothing frequencies like 174 Hz to relieve stress and elevate your mood, and avoid overstimulating frequencies like 440 Hz that can agitate and exhaust.

Self-Inquiry for Sacred Living

Ask yourself:
What does the outside of your home say to the world?
How do others feel when they visit your space?
Are the sounds and energy in your home supportive or distracting?
Are the people in your environment aligned with the peace you seek?

Final Thoughts

Your home is not just where you live — it’s where your energy lives. Whether you’re creating a more sacred space for yourself, preparing to sell, or both, your home should reflect the life you want to lead. Elevate your space, protect your peace, and surround yourself with good energy.
